Ableton added a cool feature to Live 7, it allows us to determine our own personal default settings for Abletons Devices. I made a list of 10 Tips that explain how this feature works.
Devices
• Default presets are located in your Ableton Library/Defaults folder.
• The presets for devices are stored in the Audio Effects, MIDI Effects and Instrument folders.
• The Device folders contain presets named after the Ableton Devices (eg. Reverb), if there is no default preset for a device then the Ableton default settings will be used.
• Each Device can have only one default preset.
• Presets can be saved by dragging a device to a folder from Live's browser.
Dropping Samples on a Track
• You can select wether a Simpler or Sampler will be used when you drag a sample onto a track by dropping a Simpler or Sampler without a sample, saved as a preset in Ableton Library/Defaults/Dropping Samples/On Track View.
Dropping Samples on a Drum Rack
• You can select wether a Simpler or Sampler will be used when you drag a sample onto a Drum Rack Slot by dropping a Simpler or Sampler without a sample, saved as a preset in Ableton Library/Defaults/Dropping Samples/On Drum Rack.
Slicing
• A slicing preset can be made by placing a Simpler or Sampler without a sample onto a Drum Rack slot, the presets can be stored by dragging them to Ableton Library/Defaults/Slicing.
• Live will let you choose between multiple slicing presets.
• You can set the parameters of the Simpler or Sampler to taste before saving a preset, so that those parameter values will be recalled when you drop a sample onto a Track or a Drum Rack.
