In the past few years I've written many times about Dummy Clips. Every time a new version of Live arrives, it gets a little bit easier to use them. We have done a small collection of videos that will highlight many of the uses for Dummy Clips, starting with the basics and working our way up.
The first video shows how to apply different effects to an audio source. Its a simple example but a very important one; the method illustrated in the video can also be applied to regular Audio and MIDI clips, allowing you to assign a designated effect to a clip.
Thank you so very very much for all the tutorials. They really helped me bet a better understanding of the way Live actually works. It also helped me to get out of the linear sequencer paradigm rut I was stuck in. Thanks again :)
Great tips. One question though, when routing from a return track back into an audio track there is a noticable latency that cannot be overcome and much disscussed about on ableton's forum. Did you experience this and decided it wasn't an issue or have you found a way to resolve? The internal routing latency makes time dependant clip automation all a bit sloppy. Cheers
The less 3rd party plugins you use, the tighter the results will be. It shouldn't be like that but that is how it is for now. Live 9 maybe will have proper PDC.
