NY Style Compression

New York Style compression adds extra punch and presence.  On the Ableton Forum there has been some debate as to how best to implement the approach in Ableton Live. Here's one take on it - as always go through the links by the video to get to the tasty HD on vimeo :)

And don't forget NOT to blink... this one is QUICK!

Just stumbled onto the site, what a great resource! Just tried out the NY style compression in Live 8, but it seems I need a little more time to tweek. What about Justice drums, how can I achieve that amazing sound?

I have watched the NY compression video countless times but cant quite get it. When you added another chain, did you copy the original chain? because you said we now have 2 chains, one with compression, one without, yet if you copy the first, you have 2 compressors. Please help. thanks, peter

I am using Live 8 & there is the yellow square that you clicked to create new chain doesnt exist. The manual says you can add chains by copying others or dragging & dropping presets. I cant see how you create a new chain.

Hi Peter,

It happens a little fast in the video, but a new chain is created by right-clicking the rack and selecting "Create a chain".

Cheers
