speed optimization possible?

Thanks Bjorn, is it possible to improve the speed of BCR Performer v1.6 a little more or is it already optimized? If the updates would work a little faster it would be even better. But working fastly on the encoders does not mean more musicality as output, so this is not a big issue. I am just asking out of curiosity.

Hey Silverfish,

Due to MIDI limitations in Live which require workarounds, it doesn't make much sense to do a M4L version of this yet.

You'd still require the Max Runtime app. (or 16 MIDI Tracks in Live)

The Clip Mapper I've made for M4L is part of my new way of thinking.
The BCR Performer was a way for me to get even more presets out of the unit. So now you can have hundreds of knobs and buttons, but its not really helping that much to keep things easy. Now I just assign the parameters I require to clips, to be recalled when the clips are triggered. It makes much more sense for me personally.

Cheers

Hi Bjorn what a great idea!

Ableton doesn't show max runtime in the midi routing section of the preferences tab in windows ???

- so from what you said i guess i select a spare midi yoke IN port from the 'from host to bcr perf.

then BCR {1} for the second [bcr performer to bcr] and third bcr to bcr performer

then finaly a midi yoke OUT port from the 'from bcr performer to host' drop down?

and then enable the remote output for the midi yoke in and out port in ableton?

having done this ^^ ableton still doesn't recieve midi from the bcr -do you have any idea why this is?

sorry Bjorn I just notice that once i turned on the track option on the IN midi yoke port it worked ! [whoops]

it just doesn't display the midi data being inputted by the cpu usage percentage

also it seemed to have some latency but that was correct by changing the port type to direct music in the midi routing section

thanks again for such an awesome app!!

Hello, I recieve this message from Max Runtine on load: presets: file Default_Labels.maxpresets not found. Is it ok?

Also Behringer Editor gives me a message when I am trying to import sysex files provided - Wrong file type: Sorry the file you selected is not usable.

I am complete noob to midi controllers,. Could it work without the SysEx files being imported?

1) Use the 3rd sysex file and manually reprogram those buttons using CC0 value 1 to 8.

2) Not understanding what you mean with this.

Great - I've managed to program presets 1-8 on the first 8 buttons!!!

- I also found that by moving the top right rotary encoder to 'on' position turns made it so only 1 button is illuminated at once (to show which preset is selected in this case!)

i think you already answered point 2) in you explainations above - but i only just understood it!

Two more questions - (sorry!)

I've set the BCRP software up as you say (Its says BCR2000 not BCR2000 port 1 as you can seen in this screenshot http://www.sendspace.com/file/neww08 ), the BCRP is responding to the controller, but live is not receiving any midi data ?

1) I'm using OSX (new to mac) - and have set the BCR to USB MODE2. -OK?

2)I haven't installed any drivers for the BCR as the quick start guide says it will use osx's own driver? . Do i need other drivers? If i do, which ones ?

Thanks again! I can't wait to start using it!!!

I think you might need a different mode. Can't recall which one, but it looks like your preferences are missing the second port.

That might explain the lack of port names.
Normally you should be able to access the MIDI in and out ports on the BCR and not just the usb port.

But then again if this was just the usb port, it should work. You definitely need to change the BCR mode. I think its USB mode 1.

this is very swanky! thanks for putting this out there, very useful stuff.

i got the thing going in record time! thanks for all the goodies. the only thing that is still kind of wonky is when I tap a preset button (< or >) it makes the top 2x8 buttons on/off, which is sweet. And usually the max patch stops recognizing the lower knobs (but the midi channel still gets transposed!) in order to get back to the change preset mode i've gotta resend the SysEx (and it's kind of slow, i should decrease the time between notes but i fear errors).

wishing i could peek at the source but using the max runtime because my demo ran out. something like this in PureData would be bliss~!

srsly, the sysex file is quite useful, maxpatch typed-presets names saves a lot of masking tape and magic marker! THX!

Hey there,
Thanks for this - its amazing.
I have a little problem though - it seems to be working fine in the BRC > Live direction - but changing stuff in live (with a mouse or another controller) doesn't make the LED's change in reverse... is this a limitation, or something I've set up wrong?

I've got in/out set to midi yoke 1 in live
in performer i have perf > live as midi yoke 1, and perf > BRC as BRC 1

Any advice would be appreciated!
Thanks again :)

Thanks! I managed to get it working both ways by playing with the settings...

Some new issues;
1) I see what schneider meant with the delay - when you move a control in LIVE, it takes about 2seconds to update on the BCR - is there any way to get this more instant?

2) is there any way to make the 16 preset select LEDs to stay on when using the 'BCR Performer 1.6 Button 33-48.syx' setting? once you press a preference you dont know what you're on any more, would be nice to keep the LED lit

Thanks again, such a cool thing :)

1) The update rate is because the application has to keep polling for changes. At this rate, it doesn't affect performance. But once its cranked up, it does.

2) Its been a while since I've actually used this myself. I switched to a different controller and Max for Live. I probably won't find the time to work more on this until Ableton gives us a runtime, so this application can be embedded inside Live. Hopefully soon!

Cheers

OK Bjorn, thanks so much for sharing this - its still great! I don't think the delay is a problem so much - I'm guessing if I need any more responsiveness than 2 seconds I won't be using the mouse!

Interestingly though, if i change present and then back again inside that 2 seconds it's still updated!

Actions made to control something should happen instantly. Updating all the dials and LED's are a bit delayed. I just checked and the delay is actually 1000ms. A bit slower than a blink, but its still reasonable I think.

Hi Bjorn,

This is a great thing!

I am using a Livid Code controller, and there I have the same issue. So, I wonder; do you think your application can be used with the Livid Code controller? If so, how does the midi-mapping look for the BCR (which cc's to which knobs etc.) - and I'm wondering if someone has already made something like this in the maxforlive.com library ...

Hey dude, Hope you still check these messages! I've been struggling with this for about a week now and its driving me crazy!

I'm trying to use your patch with five12s Numerology (http://www.five12.com/n3.html) so that I can control different stacks (on diff. midi channels) all from the 1 patch on my BCR.

I downloaded MIDI monitor and your patch seems to be doing its job but numerology seems to still be getting info direct from the BCR rather than from max.

any ideas?

thanks!
